As the only active New York Guard unit in the Middle of Manhattan, the role of the 9th Regiment is critical to the success of any city operation. We are stationed in one of only 3 FUNCTIONING armories in Manhattan. We have provided security at the armory during times of activations, including the September 11th Attacks. We were the closest armory/New York Guard Unit
to Ground Zero and the 69th Regiment Armory became both a military and civilian command post. The 88th Brigade maintained an active communications net, MERN (Military Emergency Radio Net), in support of the Year 2000 date change inisitive. The New York Guard support the units of the National Guard as a force multiplier and during preparations for Foreign deployments the 88th Brigade has taken over internal security for the National Guard so that they may concentrate on preparing to deploy.
The 9th is Available to provide medical and search and rescue resources to civil and military authorities. Members of the 9th train to the highest standards. Members are offered training in C.E.R.T., Search and Rescue to NASAR Standards (National Association for Search and Rescue), First Aid, Emergency Response, Domestic Preparedness, Courses from FEMA, Terrorism, Nuclear Biological and Chemical Attacks and this is all in addition to military protocol. Most importantly, the members of the 9th Regiment New York Guard maintain an ever vigilant presence and are standing by to assist you and the entire state of New York.
